Ways to Use Tea Tree Oil acne cream to Eliminate Breakouts
Breakouts are the bane of every teenager’s (and some adults’) existence, which is why a plethora of different creams, moisturizers, cleansers and other facial products purported to treat acne has flooded the cosmetic market. Chances are, you’ve come into contact or even tried one of these at some point. But despite the wide range of options available even at your local grocery store, people are often disappointed with the products that they find.
Perhaps they aren’t as effective as the label proclaims. Perhaps it causes nasty, painful side effects. Regardless of the cause, for those people whose “modern”, chemical beauty products have failed them, we have a much more natural solution to acne: tea tree oil.
There are many studies explaining the effectiveness of tea tree oil in acne treatment. Some say it’s because of the turpentine traces in the essential oil, whereas others swear by its natural plant properties, but the bottom line is this: Tea Tree Oil use fights acne much better than its chemical neighbors (like benzoyl peroxide) when it comes to treatments. With that in mind, here are several ways you can use your 100% tea tree oil to treat and prevent acne development.
1. Direct Application
The simplest and most effective way to use tea tree oil to fight acne is to directly apply it to the area affected. Of course, you need to dilute the oil with water (about 15% is ideal), because tea tree oil, like other essential oils, is extremely concentrated (and therefore potentially dangerous). Simply dip a cotton swab or ball or makeup pad in the solution and dab it onto your face to get the most benefits out of the tea tree oil.
2. Add to facial cosmetics
You can also treat acne with tea tree oil by adding a few drops of the essential oil to your store-bought or homemade face wash. The ingredients used in the face wash will clean off your face while the antiseptic qualities of the tea tree oil speed up the acne removal process. This can be especially helpful if pure tea tree oil is too harsh or too drying for your skin.
If you don’t like to use face washes, though, don’t worry: you can also add a few drops of tea tree oil to your favorite lotions, facial masks, and other cosmetic products to make sure your skin get some exposure to the healing properties of tea tree oil.
Do be careful about what products you use, however -- essential oils containing tea tree oil are very different from 100% tea tree oil. While other products that contain tea tree oil can be helpful, they can also cause potential side effects when mixed with your own cosmetics that are better to avoid if possible.
3. Add to your bath
Tea tree oil isn’t just beneficial for your face, however -- you can add a few drops of the essential oil to your bath to spread its healing effects over any acne-affected parts of your skin. Breathing in the fresh smell of the resulting tea-tree scented steam can help you get rid of any head or chest congestion as well.
4. Buy tea tree oil products
We’ve already warned against adding tea tree oil products (as opposed to pure tea tree oil) to any other cosmetics above, but that doesn’t mean that soaps, lotions, and face washes that contain tea tree oil aren’t helpful in their own right. If you don’t want to go to the trouble of producing your own homemade cosmetics, or if your own varieties are too strong for your taste, you can always try out a company-produced recipe that could be the right solution to your acne problems.
