WHAT ARE DENTURES? WHAT'S THEIR IMPORTANCE?

Would you still have that great set of teeth after twenty to thirty years from now? Losing some of your teeth or even all of your teeth may sound horrible but it is a known fact that it happens every time. Poor oral hygiene is one of the major causes why some people loose tooth but trauma and other diseases also plays a part. Dentists usually offers every alternative there is for the person to regain the normal function of the teeth.
One of the most common options for tooth replacement is through the use of dentures. Dentures are commonly known as false teeth which are used in replacing both partial and complete missing teeth. The complete dentures are for patients who have all their teeth removed while the partial dentures, on the other hand are for patients who still have remaining natural teeth.

Complete Dentures – This is the type of teeth appliance given to people who no longer have remaining teeth. Complete dentures come in two types, the conventional dentures and the immediate dentures. Conventional denture is a set of full removable denture which is prepared, made, and placed once the mouth and gums of the patient have fully healed. This type of denture keeps the patient toothless for several months after the removal of the remaining teeth and it usually takes eight to twelve weeks before the tissues and gums have fully recovered.
Another type of complete denture is the immediate denture which is placed right after the last remaining teeth are removed. This type of denture has been made in advance and will allow the patient to have a complete set of teeth right after extraction. But this type of denture has the disadvantage of requiring for more adjustments after the gums have fully healed. During the healing process the bones and gums tend to shrink which will cause for the denture not to fit properly. That is why this type of denture is considered as a temporary solution from being toothless during the healing process. If the immediate denture poses a problem not fixable by adjustments after the healing process it will be better if the patient will get a conventional denture done.
Partial Dentures – Removable partial denture is used when some of the natural teeth are still in the mouth. The replacement teeth in the partial dentures or bridge sometimes has metal framework that will hold it in place inside the mouth. These teeth are also attached to a plastic base which usually resembles the color of the gums. Partial denture fills in gaps inside the mouth caused by one or more missing teeth and by doing so it keeps the other teeth in its place and prevents it from shifting.
Benefits from Dentures
Dentures are not just mere replacements of your natural teeth. It helps you gain back the ability to chew your food properly. There is a great difference when a person chews his food with a good set of teeth. When you are able to chew your food properly you are also able to obtain the full nourishment that the food will provide your body. With a good set of denture, the person also gains back the control for his or her diet. Eating the right kind of food can be hindered when a person has crumbling and damaged teeth because they tend to look for food which is soft and easy to chew because of their teeth’s delicate condition.
Another benefit from wearing dentures is that it reduces the occurrence of sagging facial muscles. When teeth are lost and is unable to support the muscles of the face, you’ll notice that the cheeks will tend to sink in or down. This occurrence will also allow wrinkles to appear in your face which in turn will make you appear older without years adding to your age. Wearing dentures will make you appear better looking than before. For partial dentures, replacement teeth can easily match the color of the natural ones while for complete dentures you can always opt to make it appear whiter than your natural teeth since there is nothing to match colors with. Enhancing your appearance with dentures also boosts self-esteem and confidence.
