YOUR TOOTHBRUSH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOL FOR GOOD ORAL HYGIENE

Almost everyone has a toothbrush, and that’s good to know for those who are looking to have the best oral hygiene. However, you might be surprised to find out that not everyone has the best toothbrush that is ideal for their own oral conditions. You might be thinking that all toothbrushes are the same, right? So it only makes sense that you can run down to the super market and pick up and brush that you see. However, this most certainly is not the case. In fact, everyone needs to consider a variety of different circumstances in order to ensure that their toothbrush is perfect for their teeth and gums. Here is a look at those circumstances explained by Elizabeth Kilpatrick-Fox, DMD that what should be considered during the toothbrush-finding process.

To Big Or Too Small? Or Just Right?
There are two common misperceptions that people have about toothbrush size. The first thought is that the size of the toothbrush doesn’t matter, as long as the person at least takes their time to brush their teeth. The other thought is that larger toothbrushes are better, as they will allow for the chance to clean more space in less time. However, neither of these thoughts are right.

While a larger toothbrush may cover more space in the mouth, the truth is that big toothbrushes have a much more difficult time navigating into smaller cracks and crevices. This means that it can be difficult, if not impossible, to each areas that in-between each pair of teeth.
On the other hand, a smaller toothbrush isn’t ideal either. While you may be taking more time to brush your teeth, smaller toothbrushes may not have the power that you need to adequately clean the surface area of each tooth.
Instead, people should find a toothbrush that is just right for their mouth. In order to fight out what size is perfect, consider asking your dentist. They have a wealth of knowledge that you can use in order to ensure that your toothbrush is perfect for daily use.
The Strength Of The Bristles Must Be Perfect
Many people will often opt for a toothbrush that has soft bristles, as they feel as if hard or medium bristle strengths hurt or will harm their gums. And while it’s not recommend that you get a toothbrush with hard bristles, as this will cause further damage, the truth is that soft bristles are also not ideal. This is because they will often bend too much and not clean your teeth as needed. Although medium strength bristles may be tough to handle at first, this is the best way to go. Over time, your teeth and gums will adjust to the medium strength, and you can rest assured knowing you are properly cleaning your mouth.
A Comfortable Toothbrush Is An Enjoyable Toothbrush
Most people don’t enjoy brushing their teeth as it is. This is even more true if the person feels uncomfortable each time that they brush their teeth. Therefore, it’s important that the toothbrush that is used is quite comfortable and it doesn’t cause pain while brushing. For those that have pain in their wrists or hands, it’s important to look for a toothbrush that is easy to hold and maneuver in the mouth.
It Might Be Time To Switch Out Your Old Brush

Take a look at your toothbrush and see what kind of condition it is in. If it’s been a while since you last changed it out, then it’s likely that it’s time that you need something new. A toothbrush that has bristles that are tattered or worn will not nearly have the type of strength that you need for lasting beneficial effects. Therefore, it might be time to switch out your old toothbrush and get something new. To help prepare yourself in the future, consider having multiple toothbrushes ready so that you can easily switch it out when the time comes.
